There’s a Difference Between Minimalist and Boring

It's coming up on a year since I got a domain for the site and actually started using a real version of WordPress. My theme has gone through many small edits, but everything remained more or less the same. I don't really like the theme, I'm caught somewhere between wanting to use someone else's theme but I don't like having things on my site not done by me. I'm going to try doing a complete overhaul on the header and bottom bar and try out some new stuff with my Lifestream. I've kept the same sort of styling for the posts and meta since what I had on my Blogsome blog, and I like that, so I don't think I'll change it. The rest of the theme needs some real flare (and I don't mean just some Web 2.0 gloss or something) as the design never really became what ...

The One About WordPress 2.3

It took a long time, but I now have my blog running WordPress 2.3 and my theme has been updated to go along with it. If there is one thing that I love about the Web 2.0 style now, it's that everything gets tags. So, I was originally planning to get a tag plugin, but I read about some of them and they sounded quite complicated, and I assumed that they would be useless when this update came out. Luckily for users of tag plugins, WordPress 2.3 can import all the tags into the integrated tag library, though I wasn't entirely wrong. So, as you've probably noticed, there is now a line under my original post meta for tags, and clicking on one of them brings you to a page that shows the top three tags and links you to my Tag Cloud page. I decided not to have the entire tag cloud above the tag archives, it looked too cluttered and disorganized. It could be worked into some blogs, though, and putting in on a sidebar for just that page would look great. Check out the WordPress Codex page for the tag cloud WP Tag for how to go about doing that.

It’s Broken, It’s Fixed

Filed under All Posts, Internet by Kenneth Ormandy.

I screw internet things up a lot. For example, less than a day after I get the gamercard script going, I've now done in my RSS feeds. Apparently it's something about there being a line break above the first line of the feed. From what I've gathered, the problem comes from PHP 5.2.2 or higher, so there was a manual fix for this in WordPress 2.1. Problem is, I'm running WordPress 2.2 which is supposed to have this fix built in, so I've been going nuts all day trying to figure out what is wrong. One of my favorite blog taglines was If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is. Clearly, I don't have the same level of patience as the person who came up with that. Bear with as I try deactivating all my plugins - for a second time - to see if that makes a difference. If ...
