Mostly Just “Messy.”

This summer I've gotten back into Warhammer 40,000, a table-top science fiction table top soldier game. The game is from Games Workshop, they produce and sell the products. There are two Games Workshop stores in Edmonton, the nearest to where I live is in the West Edmonton Mall. I have basically been going there since I got into the hobby, I first played on a holiday in Calgary and went to the other Edmonton once or twice. This was two or so years ago, but at the time the employees were really annoying and I was basically turned off that store for, well, ever. But now I'm seriously considering going back to it. Over the past year, maybe less, the WEM GW store has started to get really bad. Underestimating how many people who would come to events was common, the good employees started leaving and now the summer events don't look like they'll be going very well. Yesterday I went to Games Workshop to participate in the terribly-renamed event "Quick and Messy." It consists of two 500pt. armies working together against another two 500pt. army team. Last summer I had a ton of fun doing this event, which was organized as a tournament. It went along with a painting contest and, if I remember correctly, a similar event on a different night of the week for Warhammer and Lord of the Rings. (Those are GW's other major games.) This time, however, was significantly different, though I should have been able to figure that out by the new name of the event.

Scorched Earth

Today Games Workshop hosted the Medusa V campagin event "Scorched Earth." We didn't really follow the specific stuff that we were supposed to, but the store staff got us going and myself and one other guy got playing, more people showed up and the staff switched spots with them and by the time I left we had five people playing with between 300 and 400 pts. going at it on a 4 by 4 ft. board. It was pretty crazy. Oh, if you have no idea what I'm talking about at this point you can pretty much ignore this post, I'm only going to talk about it. I didn't last as long in the game as some of the guys, of course I started playing a lot earlier than a lot of them. We could keep bringing our units 'back to life' and just ...

Early Tunesday and 40K

Wow, I've got some stuff to catch you up on. Okay, it's summer, so not really. I do have a couple of interesting things to share, though. Firstly, I'm doing a short edition of Tunesday today. Yes, I know I could just wait until tomorrow, maybe I still will, but I have to talk about Silent Alarm Remix. In my last Blog I was pretty harsh on the album, but once I got to listen to it through some decent speakers, it really wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. A lot of the tracks are just "Meh" but some are really catchy and one track, Luno, done by Canada's own Death From Above 1979 might even be better than Bloc Part's version. So, sorry Bloc Party, I was too quick to judge Remixed but I wasn't completely off. My recommendation is this: If you like British ...
