Refraining from Swearing

When you use someone for a service, especially a company that only does one thing, you expect it to be done right. You don't have to remind a car repair shop to fix your car, so could someone explain to me why I'm on the phone with Purolator, trying to find out why they didn't ship my Xbox yet? It's been almost two weeks since I shipped that, I got the box and dropped it off the same day -- their track record confirms that. What it also shows, unknown to me until this morning, is that it hasn't left that drop-off center yet! These past two weeks, I've been under the assumption that my box was in the mail, but it turns out that it is still sitting where I left it. On top of that, I can't even call and ...

FamFamFam, Blog Todos and Side Notes

Well, I'm working on updates to my blog theme. It has never really been finished, and if you've visited recently you may have noticed the icons I put in. I know it's typical to use FamFamFam icons at this point, but I love 'em and I've never really had a chance to use them yet. I'm also working on making my own icons for my Lifestream, which started because the Twitter favicon is too low quality. I haven't re-done the Digg icon yet, but the Last.fm one needs a re-do and the Red Ring of Death icon for my Xbox Live status is just a re-colour. I still have a few items left on my todo list, though. Replace "?" image with something else for default Gravatars. Fix comment meta icons. Change comment meta on archive, search and category to match the index page. Finish off Lifestream icons. Add content to the About page 2, ...

Nothing if Not Patient

In an effort to get into blogging more frequently, I thought I'd fill you in on how my search for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption went today. Technically, today is the official release date, though I had never really expected to find it today. In most places in Canada (and, I expect, most places in general) it is quite hard to find games on the day they are advertised as coming out unless they are a really big title. Now, MP3:C is a really big title, from a commercial and gaming standpoint. Nintendo, however, seems to do this thing where they don't tell the retailer when their games will get there and don't ship them until the day they are supposed to be sold. This is great for preventing stores from breaking the 'street date,' (See: BioShock) but it causes a lot of problems for people like me, who love buying games the day they are supposed to be available. I started out by making a list of all the stores I wanted to contact, which resulted in a list of 3 Best Buys, 5 Futureshops, 6 EB Games, an HMV and the Wal-Mart, Zellers and Rogers Video in the city I live. Spoiler: not a single one of them had it. I can assure you if they did I'd be playing the game rather than writing this. The closest I got was at the second closest EB Games to me. While all the others had said, We don't have it, it's due out tomorrow anyways. (Which is wrong, but I didn't feel like arguing with so many people) this location told me to call back after noon as they were expecting a shipment. When I called at 1:30, they said they weren't getting it after all. If nothing else, the conversations supplied me with some interesting - and sometimes amusing - answers.
