I’m nearing the end of a drama project, it has been taking up a lot of time the past few days. Basically, last Monday, we were put into groups and we got to pick a movie genre. We have to make a short film at least two minutes in length in that genre to the best of our ability. The catch is that we only had two weeks to do so, and pre-production didn’t go as smoothly as planned so the group I’m in has been under more than a little pressure, especially today. I’ve probably done around five hours of work on it today, maybe more. We had a double class plus we stayed after school filming for half and hour. I spent a lot of time editing and even more time transferring files. I can never seem to set up a good network to share files on between computers and my Adobe Premire Elements 2.0 CD screwed me over by refusing to install on my laptop. I still have some valid keys from when I bought it, but the install fails half way through after I put the key in. So, I had to capture footage on the old computer because it wouldn’t work on my family’s computer, then transfer 2gb of files to the family computer, but I only have a 512mb flash drive. Then I had to edit everything, and transfer all the old files plus the new export of what I have done to show them on my laptop in class tomorrow. I refrained from looking for one of my ‘quick’ work-arounds in this situation seeing as it always turns into an issue that takes more time than doing it the weird and seemingly inefficient way. Tomorrow we need to re-film a scene plus do a little more work and then filming is done, leaving me (and only me…) to edit the rest. That said, I’d much rather edit than act more than I have to. I’m in a ‘fight scene’ where I get my ass kicked but I can’t even portray being a formidable opponent because I’m so scrawny. It’s actually kinda funny, which is kinda what we were going for. Still, our traditional projects are easier for me to be in because you don’t have to see myself do it again and again afterwards.

So, there you go, that’s my boring catch-up story. Dunno if I’ll end up putting the video online once this whole thing is done, I’ll see how it looks post-edit and what the reception from the rest of our class is. I guess I should probably ask the rest of my group, too, hey? We’ll see, this is still the weirdest part of making shorts. I listen to interviews for games and movies and people always say things like You never know if it’s good or bad until it’s out there. It’s really true, a lot of the time, though. Obviously this is nothing on those scales, but it’s still disheartening when no one finds that joke you wrote or think that one part is so cool.
