Project Gotham Racing 4

I blame my friend, Harry, for my recent hatred towards racing games. I’ve never been that into the genre that much, so I had no intention to pick up Project Gotham Racing 3. If I had gotten a 360 at launch, that would have been a different story. My dad, however, is a huge racing fan. I’m no where as near as into it as he is, but I do love the BBC program Top Gear and I do enjoy watching Formula 1. It still came as a bit of a surprise, though, when my dad decided to buy the wireless racing wheel for the 360. He virtually doesn’t game at all, and I didn’t want it, so I have never really understood why he got it. One plus for me, though, was that it came with PGR3. I didn’t really expect to get into the game, but for a while, I did. Once I got through the Arcade mode once on the Bronze, though, I just couldn’t go back. Now, though, I wish I could, but there’s kinda this thing about me not having a 360 right now that prevents that. Why? Probably the Bizarre Creations blog.

So, what does this have to do with Harry? He is the only reason I even thought about buying Forza Motorsport 2. I don’t think I really knew what I was getting into when I got it, and the attempt at the web to game features along with the car painting sounded so good I just got it for that. Once I started racing, though, it became clear that what people were saying about the demo were true: If you made the first corner, buy the game. Otherwise, it isn’t for you. Guess what? I didn’t make the first corner. Don’t get me wrong, Forza is an incredible game, and is chalk full of great racing content. I did like a lot of it, Auction House is great, the presentation of the game is great, Arcade was pretty fun and there’s enough races in Career to last you a very, very, very long time. The problem is, I don’t think I can’t get into a game that deep, especially not a racing game. I’ll probably be able to go back to any game once my 360 gets back, just because it’s been almost a month since I had to send it in. And I’m getting over Forza and looking forward more and more to Project Gotham Racing 4. Career looks like a lot of fun, the rivalries between you and the AI drivers should prove to be a lot more interesting that racing John Doe all the time. But seriously, the 360 line-up for September through November is just incredible, and it looks like PGR4 is getting added to my list. I suppose if I have to pick one post off the Bizarre blog, it was probably this one, Studio Update 30, that peaked my interest. That’s probably the best spot to get a recap of all the modes in the game. Career mode and the whole presentation of the game just sound so good! I guess that’s how I went from not caring, to liking, to hating, to anticipating the Project Gotham games.

So, thanks for reading those incoherent and sometimes irrelevant ramblings. And sorry for the poor pun in the title. This is easily the the most number of times I’ve written bizarre in a single, related block of text. Now, check out this cool video that hit the blog today, it’s Bizarre Creations vs. Their Own TV Spot. Spoiler: The original commercial loses.

I’m like you - not much of a racing fan. I picked up Gotham 3 recently because I wanted a ‘no brainer’ game (if that makes sense?). I had a lot of fun playing through on Bronze but only made it half way through on Silver before getting too bored to finish it off. I think the racing wheel would probably get me back into it, or at least enough to finish off Silver. But I’m not splashing out the cash for a genre that I’m not that into. As for Forza, I’ve heard that appeals to the more hardcore racing fan? I think I’ll steer well clear of that!
